Cold Steel SR1: A Folding Survival Knife

Many have pondered the possibility of a true folding survival knife, but when you pair Andrew Demko and Cold Steel on the idea, you get a true “hold my beer” moment. The Cold Steel SR1 is a folding SRK.  Seriously.  4.0″ CPM S35VN stainless clip point with a high sabre grind for strength. 5mm (0.19″) thick.

The G-10 scales are 5″ long with heat treated nested steel liners. With an integrated lanyard hole and coarse-textured surface for a secure grip even in cold, wet conditions, and expertly contoured to allow for a comfortable and safe grip even while wearing gloves.

Cold Steel is perhaps best known for its invention of the Tri-Ad® lock, which they’ve proven through rigorous torture tests to be the most secure and safest folding knife locking system on the market. Designed by famed knife designer and Cold Steel collaborator Andrew Demko, the Tri-Ad® lock uses a unique combination of features that responds exceptionally to both positive and negative pressures and has been tested to hold up to 800 pounds of hanging weights.

The Cold Steel SRK (Survival Rescue Knife) has been a proud flagship blade in Cold Steel’s line-up for over 25 years. The knife of choice for many of our brothers and sisters in the military, it remains the standard issue fixed blade of the Navy SEALs during BUDS training to this day. It’s little wonder then, that when Cold Steel tasked custom knifemaker Andrew Demko with developing a high-end tactical folding knife for military application, that he took inspiration from the legendary SRK.

The SR1 features Demko’s signature minimalist style, with no unnecessary flourishes or embellishments, just pure functional, no-nonsense, practical design.
